Week 6 "Pursuing Hospitality"

Nov 2, 2025    Nick Seders

What does it truly mean to practice hospitality? This message takes us deep into Romans 12:13, unpacking the Greek word 'philoxenia'—literally 'love for the stranger.' We discover that biblical hospitality isn't merely about serving cookies or cleaning our homes, but about extending the transformative love of God to those around us. The sermon beautifully illustrates how God Himself is the ultimate example of hospitality: we were once foreigners, excluded from His covenant, living without hope. Yet through Christ's sacrifice, we've been brought near, adopted into God's family, and given citizenship in His kingdom. This isn't just theology—it's personal. When we welcome others into our homes and lives, we're imitating the very heart of God who welcomed us when we were strangers. The passage from Ephesians 2 reminds us that we're no longer outsiders but members of God's household. As we reflect on this truth, we're challenged to pursue hospitality with the same determination Christ showed in pursuing us. Every invitation we extend, every meal we share, becomes an act of worship—a tangible expression of the gospel that says, 'You matter. You're seen. You belong.'
