Week 7 At Home Series with Pastoral Staff Kelly Seders

Nov 9, 2025    Kelly Seders

Thanks for joining us! This is the sermon portion of our livestream worship service from Sunday November 9, 2025. Pastoral Staff Kelly Seders continues Week 7 of our "At Home." Series with a powerful message about the content we consume.

This message confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: we spend an average of seven hours daily on entertainment, yet what we consume shapes who we become. Through the powerful story of the golden calf in Exodus 32, we're challenged to examine what idols we've constructed while waiting for Christ's return. The Israelites had witnessed God's glory firsthand, yet after just 40 days of waiting, they melted down their blessings to create a distraction. Moses' dramatic response—grinding the idol to powder and making them drink it—reveals how seriously God takes the things we set up in His place. The connection between consumption and sin goes back to Eden itself, where humanity's first transgression was an act of consuming rather than creating. We were designed to reflect God's image and create beauty in the world, yet we've become passive consumers of entertainment that often dulls our spiritual sensitivity. The message doesn't offer easy answers or legalistic rules, but instead provides three penetrating questions: Would I do this with Jesus beside me? Do I give the Holy Spirit permission to change my habits? Is what I'm consuming helping me reflect God's glory? These aren't meant to shame us, but to free us from the subtle chains of misdirected desire that keep us from the abundant life Christ offers.
