Week 9 "At Home." Sermon | Jesus, the Bread of Life

Dec 7, 2025    Nick Seders

This powerful message invites us to examine where we truly seek satisfaction and sustenance in our lives. We're reminded that God designed us to need food, but He didn't stop at mere survival. He created a world abundant with flavors, textures, and delights that point to His generous heart. The passage from Psalm 104 paints a beautiful picture of divine provision: wine to make us glad, olive oil to soothe, bread to give strength. Yet there's a deeper hunger within us that no amount of comfort food, coffee, or even our favorite holiday treats can satisfy. Through the encounter in John 6, where Jesus declares Himself the bread of life, we discover that our ancestors ate manna in the wilderness but still died. Jesus offers something eternal. When we turn to food for comfort during stress, or to drink to calm our nerves, or to snacks to fill our boredom, we're looking for satisfaction in gifts rather than the Giver. The invitation here is transformative: to recognize that while God wants us to enjoy His good gifts with thanksgiving, we're meant to feast on Him first. As we approach holiday tables laden with delicious food, we're challenged to remember that everything we consume can become an act of worship when we see it as pointing us back to the Father's generous provision and ultimately to Christ, who sustains us eternally.
